NYE Sydney

Our darling nephew Joel invited us to this AMAZING place at Milson's Point, overlooking Luna Park, Lavender Bay and Sydney's Harbour Bridge, to view the greatest show on Earth, Sydney's NYE fireworks, last Sunday night. 

I was so excited I could hardly believe I was really HERE........ Seeing the New Year in on Sydney Harbour has been on my bucket list for at least 60 years! How did you know that Joel?

We made our way from Coogee by bus and train and were well set up with drinks and nibbles on the balcony, before 6pm..... ready for the year's best show in Sydney (the world?)...... and only six hours to go...... 




 It's so special sharing this wonderful night with our South Korean family too (starting the celebrations with a glass of our fave Kardinia Rose).



The first (short) fireworks show started at 9.00pm ..... so the kids could go home early.......

Fireworks were exploded on pontoons stationed all along the harbour and the Parramatta River beyond. It seemed like the display on this pontoon directly opposite our balcony was just for us.......... 





I loved the way the cruise boats were all lit up with LED lights - a beautiful light show to complement the main action.
But then close to midnight the countdown begins: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 ..... and then the bridge explodes with light and colour .......... We gasp, and scream, cameras click, ears boom with the exploding sound. and when the bridge show pauses it's back to the pontoons spread across the water, a moving feast of glorious colour, light, sound and fury. Twenty minutes of the most thrilling show on Earth ......


And then it's over......... and a New Year begun.  A spectacular way to start 2018, in the best of company.

I'd been dreading the trip back home. A million people gather round the harbour to see this show and I thought there would be huge delays getting back across the harbour, at the very least.

But Joel had booked us a big "Bling Taxi" to ferry us home. We were picked up in Kirribilli at about 1.30pm and we were back in Coogee barely 45minutes later with very few delays. The "Bling Taxi" delivered on its name in spades. We laughed all the drive home - the envy of everyone in view. This night could not get any better! HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone............
